BCTC offers free online classes during COVID-19 crisis

LEXINGTON, Ky. — Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) is committed to serving our communities and industry partners as we navigate the current public health crisis.

To boost the Bluegrass, BCTC Workforce Solutions is offeringa FREE, one credit online class, April 15 – May 15. This is an opportunity to explore a new career pathway.

“We understand that many are facing uncertainty regarding employment and asking themselves, ‘what now?’” said BCTC President Dr. Koffi Akakpo. “We want to help them discover their options.”

Through BCTC Workforce Solutions, individuals 18 and over who are not currently enrolled at BCTC will have the opportunity to choose ONE of four online free classes:

Basics of Laboratory Calculations introduces concepts and applications of commonly used laboratory calculations. Together with other biotechnology courses, it prepares students to work in laboratories such as research, government, pharmaceutical, medical and many more.

Blueprint Reading Fundamentals presents basic applied math, lettering, lines, multi-view drawings, title blocks, material lists and the drawing change system to teach how to read a simple blueprint. This skill is used by welders, machinists and throughout the construction industry.

Problem Solving introduces the student to Toyota’s 8 step problem solving methods, and Toyota’s A3 Problem Solving methodology teaching problem clarification, analysis, achievable target setting, root cause analysis, countermeasure development and result standardization.This skill set is used in manufacturing, construction and trades, healthcare and business services.

Personal Finance prepares students to deal with financial planning, budgets, credit reports, cash flow, investments, savings vs. expenditures and saving money for retirement. This skill set is used for financial endeavors and business administration work in many industries.

All classes are FREE of charge, with no additional costs or fees for books or materials. Applicants would only need access to a computer and internet connection.
