Three Baptist Health hospitals ranked among ‘Best Hospitals’

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Three Baptist Health hospitals ranked among the Best Hospitals in their state in the 2020-21 U.S. News & World Report listings:

• Baptist Health Louisville ranked #1 in Metro Louisville and tied for #2 in Kentucky
• Baptist Health Lexington rated #4 in Kentucky
• Baptist Health Floyd tied for #8 in Indiana and tied for #3 in Metro Louisville

This is the eighth time in nine years that Baptist Health Louisville was either #1 or tied for #1 in Metro Louisville.

This is the second consecutive year for Baptist Health to have three hospitals recognized in the Best Hospitals listings.

Rounding out this year’s list for Kentucky are: University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital in the #1 spot, St. Elizabeth Healthcare Edgewood/Covington Hospitals tied for #2, Norton Hospital was listed at #5 and Jewish Hospital and Saint Joseph Hospital-Lexington tied for #6.  In Indiana, tied for #8 with Baptist Health Floyd were Franciscan Health Indianapolis, and Mishawaka Medical Center  while Indiana University Health Medical Center ranked #1.

The rankings, now in their 31st year, recognize hospitals that excel in caring for patients and are designed to assist patients and their doctors in identifying a hospital that best meets their needs. More than 4,500 medical centers nationwide were evaluated.

Baptist Health hospitals also earned high performing rankings in several adult procedures and conditions:

• Baptist Health Louisville notched high performing ratings in eight of 10 areas: abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve surgery, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, colon cancer surgery, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), hip replacement and knee replacement.
• Baptist Health Lexington was listed as high performing in six areas: abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, heart bypass surgery, heart failure, COPD, knee replacement, and lung cancer surgery.
• Baptist Health Floyd in New Albany, Indiana had three areas listed: COPD, heart failure and lung cancer surgery.
• Baptist Health Paducah and Baptist Health-managed Hardin Memorial Health in Elizabethtown, Ky. were each rated as high performing in heart failure and COPD.
• Baptist Health Corbin was recognized for COPD care.

Fewer than one-third of hospitals nationally received a high performing rating in the selected adult conditions and procedures.

The U.S. News Best Hospitals methodologies in most areas of care are based largely on objective measures such as risk-adjusted survival and discharge-to-home rates, volume, and quality of nursing, among other care-related indicators. Hospitals must staff 200 beds to be ranked.
