This weekend: ‘Silent Scream’ and ‘HOWL-O-Ween’

COVINGTON, Ky. – “Spooky” is the theme of yet another weekend in The Cov, as Halloween invades and pervades almost every venue and event.

There’s a walking-tour mystery within The Carnegie, a canine costume contest, a “Spooktacular Sweatfast,” “Costumes & Cocktails” etc. etc.

Historic and haunted?

Think “Phantom of the Opera” meets Agatha Christie meets a haunted house.

That’s one description that could be made of “Silent Scream,” a 60-minute walking tour mystery probing the depths of The Carnegie’s historic theater.

Written and directed by Sean P. Mette, “Silent Scream” is a narrative mystery told one character at a time: “Small groups of patrons will tour through a series of rooms and locations in The Carnegie to hear stories from different ghosts and receive new pieces of information to the overarching mystery along the way.”

Tickets are available here for performances tonight through Sunday.

Dress-up for dogs

Here’s more evidence that The Cov is a very dog-friendly place: Crafts & Vines is holding its second-annual “HOWL-O-Ween: Canine Costume Contest” all day Saturday.

Dress your furry friend – and make sure you check in with the bartender when you arrive to register your dog and get their picture taken. (Voting is via Facebook but you have to register in-person.)

‘Spooktacular Sweatfest’

Want to kill the calories you packed in because of those Halloween treats and drinks?

Head to Covington Yard on Saturday when instructors from Jazzercise Edgewood Fitness Center are holding Spooktacular Sweatfest. From the organizers: “Wear your costumes and monster mash along to a choreographed fusion of jazz dance, resistance training, Pilates, yoga, and kickboxing.”

A bad moon on the rise

Any business with “Moonrise” in its name probably knows a bit about nighttime spooky.

Ergo, Moonrise Doughnuts in Latonia is celebrating Halloween on Friday night with “a night of fun and prizes” along with “a spooktacular costume contest and trick or treating.” The costume contest has various age brackets.

Halloween (woods) hike

Open-air market

It might be getting cold out these days, but the Covington Farmers Market still has a lot of locally grown and manufactured food products for the purchasing.

With this Saturday being Halloween, of course, the Market will be selling pumpkins and other autumn-themed food products. Plus, kids can trick-or-treat at the green “Market” tent.

Oh, and dress in costume, because why not?
