LEXINGTON, KY (February 10, 2012) – Rupp Arena is ranked number 5 in Social Media Power, it was announced today by Venues Today. The international industry trade publication just released their first Social Media Power 100 ranking, which measures venues’ social media strength and effectiveness.
In this extensive study, Venues Today researched over 300 venues in North America: Rupp Arena ranks #5 on the chart. Ahead of Rupp Arena are (#1) The Roxy, (#2) Red Rocks Amphitheatre, (#3) Madison Square Garden and (#4) Staples Center. It is interesting to note that the top 4 rankings are located in the major metropolitan markets of Los Angeles, New York and Denver, which are at least double and up to 27 times greater in size than Lexington, Ky. In this same study, Louisville’s KFC’s Yum Center is ranked number 36.
“The Lexington Center Marketing Department has worked hard since 2008 to advance Rupp Arena’s brand and marketing message through social media, the most contemporary method of communication. Recognition on a national level is certainly deserved,” Bill Owen, president/CEO of the Lexington Center said. “Under the leadership of Marketing Director Sheila Kenny, the marketing team of Matt Johnson and Paul Hooper has proven that you don’t have to be in the biggest market or be the newest arena on the block to have a powerful punch.”
Created in partnership with Matt Kautz from Paciolan, the Venues Today Social Media Power 100 Chart ranks venues’ social media reach using a number of publicly available data points. The formula seeks to find a balance between audience size, venue engagement and fan engagement.
