Pocket Square (GB) takes Wednesday’s featured Machmer Hall Purse in U.S. debut

LEXINGTON, Ky — Juddmonte Farms’ Pocket Square (GB) made her U.S. debut a winning one by taking Wednesday’s $83,000 Machmer Hall Purse for fillies and mares by 2¼ lengths over Tuned (GB). (Click here for a replay of the race.)

Trained by Chad Brown and ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr., Pocket Square covered the 1 1/16 miles over a turf course rated as good in 1:41.17.

A Group 3 winner in France as a 2-year-old, Pocket Square raced near the rear echelon of 11 starters in the run down the backstretch, swung to the outside entering the stretch and surged past the frontrunners approaching the sixteenth pole.

Pocket Square is a 4-year-old daughter of Night of Thunder (IRE) out of the Dansili (GB) mare Shared Account (GB). The victory was worth $34,440 and boosted her earnings to $88,505 with a record of 5-3-0-1.

Racing resumes today (Thursday) with a nine-race program that begins at 1:05 p.m.
