TransGas To Construct $3 Billion Coal-to-Liquids Facility

By wmadministrator

TransGas Development Systems LLC has selected a site in West Virginia on which to build a $3 billion coal-to-liquids plant.

Projected to be operational by 2013, the plant will be built in Mingo County’s new energy park, near the West Virginia/Kentucky border. The construction phase is expected to generate 3,000 jobs. When fully staffed, the facility will employ as many as 200 workers.

TGDS estimates the facility will use up to 3 million tons of locally mined coal a year to produce more than 6.5 million barrels of gasoline.

TGDS has signed a licensing agreement with Uhde Corporation of America for the use of the new PRENFLO gasifier reactor. The proprietary technology is under authorized license from Uhde GmbH, Germany, one of the world’s leading engineering companies in the design and construction of industrial plants.

The PRENFLO technology handles all types of coal as well as petroleum coke, char and biomass. In addition to producing gasoline, the gasification process produces by-products such as slag and fly ash that are used in construction. The facility will use a catalytic process to produce gasoline.
