GoodGiving Guide challenge kicks off; raising money for 68 nonprofits

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 2, 2012) – The Challenge is on. Through the end of the year, the GoodGiving Guide Challenge has a goal to raise $400,000 for 68 nonprofits in Bourbon, Clark, Fayette, Madison and Woodford counties.

This is the second year for the online giving campaign sponsored by Blue Grass Community Foundation (BGCF) and Smiley Pete Publishing. Last year, the goal was $100,000 but the community generously donated more than $200,000.

“We’ve set an ambitious goal of $400,000 this year, but we’re confident that the charitable spirit of our friends and neighbors will get the job done,” Lisa Adkins, president/CEO of BGCF, said. “Recent national research found that less than half of all Kentuckians donate a minimum of $25 to any nonprofit. We’d like to prove that Kentuckians, particularly in the Bluegrass, are more than willing to share their generosity.”

Those who want to give can visit www.goodgivingguide.net.

Those who give will be rewarded. Many local businesses will provide prizes, gifts and discounts to donors. The minimum donation for prize eligibility is $25.

“Local businesses have been generous again this year in providing incentives to our donors and nonprofits,” said Chuck Creacy of Smiley Pete Publishing. “Some are having events at their businesses and will donate a percentage of sales. These business partners make this event more fun for the donors, which in turn, helps us raise more money for the nonprofits.”

Participating nonprofits will be vying for thousands in grant prizes and matching dollars made possible by The Community Foundation, as well as private and public partners. (See full list below.

This year, in celebration of The Community Foundation’s 45th anniversary, the organization has pledged $45,000 in grants to participating nonprofits. The first 10 to raise $4,500 in unique contributions of $25 or more will win a $4,500 endowment grant to a new or existing nonprofit endowment fund at Blue Grass Community Foundation.

Making a donation is fast and easy. Donors simply log on to www.GoodgivingGuide.net , choose the charity or charities they want to give to, and with the click of a button, can make a tax- deductible donation. The website provides information on all participating charities, donor incentives and events. In addition, Smiley Pete will distribute the Guide in its publications and in various places around Lexington.
