Northern Kentucky

The Federal Trade Commission has ruled that it will allow the merger of St. Luke Hospitals and St. Elizabeth Medical Center, both of which serve the Northern Kentucky region. St. Elizabeth and St. Luke announced their plans to merge operations in early 2007, but have been awaiting a decision by the FTC as to the impact such a move would have on the community.  The combined organization will have one board and one management, sponsored by the Catholic Diocese of Covington.  Hospital officials with both parties say the merger will ensure the long-term financial of both organizations, which might not be possible otherwise.
