Ashland Inc. has taken the first step in establishing a major presence in India by announcing its intent to acquire property in the chemical industrial zone of Jhagadia, Gujarat, India. The purchase marks Ashland’s first wholly-owned manufacturing site in India. “The state of Gujarat, where our future plant will be located, occupies a very strategic location between New Delhi to the north and Mumbai to the south,” said Mike Swartzlander, vice president and managing director, Ashland India Private Limited. The India facility will focus on resins for the composites and metal-casting-consumables industries. The transaction is expected to close this month.
