One of Louisville’s oldest businesses and nonprofits celebrates 140 years

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Founded in 1883, Family & Children’s Place has undergone a lot of change, but one thing has remained the same: the commitment to ending child abuse and neglect.

For 140 years, Family & Children’s Place has been a critical presence in the community, helping the most vulnerable citizens: children that have experienced physical and sexual abuse and neglect. We believe every child deserves a happy, healthy childhood free from abuse and that every family should have the tools and resources to maintain self-sufficiency.

We estimate that during our 140-year presence, over 280,000 children and families have been helped by our services.

“Since 1994, I have watched Family & Children’s Place grow into what it is today. From name changes to new office openings to programs being established, I am comforted with our position. While we long for the day when our services are no longer necessary, Family & Children’s Place will continue to help families create safe, nurturing homes and to fight child abuse and family violence,” said CEO/President Pam Darnall.

Family & Children’s Place has five services: Child Advocacy Center, Counseling, Greater Louisville Head Start, HANDS, and School-Based Services. To learn more about our agency, please check our website at https://familyandchildrensplace.org/.
