Commonwealth Credit Union breaks ground on branch location in Richmond

RICHMOND, Ky. — Over the past few years, Commonwealth Credit Union has expanded throughout Central Kentucky, adding new locations to its family of branches. Their Richmond Branch will be the newest addition, and the official groundbreaking for this location was celebrated Monday, June 10, at 10:00 am.

“Adding a branch in Richmond has been a project in the planning stages for a while,” said Karen Harbin, President/CEO of Commonwealth Credit Union. “The challenges of 2020 caused our plans to be placed on hold, but now, we are ready to forge ahead and show Richmond and Madison County what it means to better lives through our passion to serve!”

Commonwealth Credit Union originally purchased land for its Richmond Branch location in November of 2019. The onset of the COVID pandemic in Kentucky stunted those plans, which were further impacted by construction supply chain shortages. Even so, the credit union’s vision of a Richmond Branch never wavered. Randy Fawns, Chair of the Board of Directors, added, “Commonwealth Credit Union has continued to grow and thrive, expanding our footprint so we can more effectively serve the Central Kentucky Region. We promise our members an extraordinary experience when they bank with us, and soon, that experience will be more convenient for our members in Richmond and Madison County.”!

The branch will be located at 108 Meridian Way and is expected to be completed in 2024. This branch will mark the credit union’s 18th location in Central Kentucky and the Louisville Metro Area, with a new branch in Nicholasville and a second location in Shelbyville slated to open in August.
