EGGFest raises record amount for two food charities

Kentucky Harvest and A Recipe to End Hunger to split $35,960

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Once again, Brownsboro Hardware and Paint’s annual EGGFest Food Festival has raised a record amount. More than $35,000 will be going to two local food-related charities.

A total of $35,960.44 will be split between . Both checks – $17,980.22 for each charity – were presented today to representatives of the two food-related charities.

“This is phenomenal amount of money raised, and we could not be more pleased,” said Doug Carroll, owner of Brownsboro Hardware & Paint. “We are grateful to the people who made it happen – the cooks, the chefs, the sponsors and all those who attended this year’s EGGFest Food Festival. We feel an obligation to give back to the community, and together, we have once again been able to make a difference.”

“100% of these funds raised by Brownsboro Hardware & Paint and donated to ‘A Recipe to End Hunger’ will go right back into the community and into the bellies of those in need,” said Dawne Gee, founder of A Recipe to End Hunger. “We are often called on by many nonprofits in our city in emergency situations. We so appreciate how the community has embraced EggFEST to help make a change for food insecure individuals in our neighborhoods who have no idea where their next meal will come from or when their next chance to eat will come.”

“Funds raised from events such as the EggFEST Food Festival help us keep our truck on the road to rescue over 2.5 million pounds of food each year and feed over 250,000 people,” added Heather Stewart, executive director of Kentucky Harvest. “With one in six adults and one in five children suffering from food insecurity in our community each day, food rescue is very important. Our trucks pick up and deliver food 365 days a year. With increasing costs and gas prices, this money will help keep our trucks running and the food going to where it’s needed most.”

The annual Big Green Eggfest, held this year on August 4-5, is a food festival and cooking competition with all food cooked on a ceramic charcoal barbecue cooker called The Big Green Egg, which Brownsboro Hardware & Paint sells. Nearly $350,000 has been raised from previous Eggfests. Next year’s annual event has been scheduled for August 2-3, 2024
