ECTC earns $1.9 million grant for manufacturing workforce development

Targets residents of 7 counties for advanced skills training

ELIZABETHTOWN, Ky. — Elizabethtown Community and Technical College (ECTC) has earned a $1.9 million U.S. Department of Education Rural Postsecondary Economic Development grant for its Advanced Manufacturing Accelerator Project (AMAP).

The project will promote advanced manufacturing career pathways and create new opportunities for career exploration and preparation for residents of Breckinridge, Grayson, LaRue, Marion, Meade, Nelson and Washington counties.

ECTC is hiring a project director, two project coordinators and a project career coach to support the program. Job posting for Director of the Advanced Manufacturing Accelerator Project is available at careers.kctcs.edu/Elizabethtown. Other positions will be posted soon.

“This is an incredible opportunity to stand up a team dedicated to filling the advanced manufacturing skills gap in rural communities,” said ECTC Provost Dr. Telly Sellars. “Not only will the AMAP team ensure our emerging workforce understands the options within the advanced manufacturing sector, but they also will walk with students every step of the way as they explore and prepare for successful careers as robotics technicians, welders, machinists, or one of the many other roles available with local manufacturers.”

Collaborating with school districts, community organizations, employers and economic development and workforce development partners, AMAP will provide middle and high school students, as well as adult learners, resources and opportunities to excel in advanced manufacturing careers. Offerings of the project may include:

  • Specialized curricula
  • Expanded dual credit opportunities
  • Hands-on training programs
  • Job shadowing opportunities
  • Internships for students
  • Externships for educators
  • Summer programs

ECTC is one of 22 institutions nationwide and one of four in Kentucky to receive the grant, which runs through December 2027.

“We’ve always been dedicated to empowering students to learn skills, earn credentials, connect with employers and secure economic wellbeing,” said Sellars. “The Advanced Manufacturing Accelerator Project will take that to a new level and yield meaningful results for students and the manufacturers waiting to hire them.”
