UofL Health will provide for 106th PGA Championship at Valhalla

Valhalla Golf Course off Shelbyville Road in Jefferson County was designed by Jack Nicklaus. It hosts the 2024 PGS Championship.

LOUISVILLE — The PGA of America has announced its partnership with UofL Health as the Official Medical Services Provider of the 2024 PGA Championship to be held May 13th-19th at Valhalla Golf Club.  UofL Health is a fully integrated regional academic health system with more than 13,000 team members focused on transforming the health of the communities they serve through compassionate, innovative and patient-centered care.

UofL Health has a long history with PGA of America events in Louisville, and this is the same team of medical professionals that keeps the community safe during Louisville-staple events including Thunder Over Louisville, Kentucky Derby Festival Pegasus parade, Louder than Life and Bourbon & Beyond, the Urban Bourbon Half-Marathon and fans at every home Louisville football game.

UofL Health broke ground in June 2022 on a new seven-story tower to anchor a $144 million expansion and upgrade to UofL Health – UofL Hospital.

UofL Health will provide on-site medical services for spectators, players, caddies, volunteers, vendors and staff.  Nearly 150 medical providers and health care volunteers will be on site throughout Championship week  at Valhalla.

“We are incredibly proud to once again partner with UofL Health for the 2024 PGA Championship, as the health and safety of our spectators is a top priority.  We’re thankful for their local expertise and guidance throughout the planning process and on-site during the championship,” said Ryan Ogle, PGA Championship Director.

On-site during Champ week, UofL Health will provide EMS resources, on-call specialists and general surgeons for contestants and caddies, and a team of medical professionals to staff the first-aid trailers located at multiple locations on the course.

“UofL Health and the Department of Emergency Medicine are excited to bring their extensive event medicine experience to the 2024 PGA Championship,” said Tim Price, M.D. “We look forward to contributing to a fantastic week of golf for our community!”

The PGA Championship is the only all-professional major in men’s golf and traditionally features the strongest field in men’s golf with a worldwide television audience, and over 200,000 spectators are expected to attend the 2024 Championship (Monday through Sunday) at Valhalla Golf Club.

UofL Health is a regional academic health system with eight hospitals, four medical centers, Brown Cancer Center, Eye Institute, nearly 200 physician practice locations, and more than 1,000 providers in Louisville and the surrounding counties, including Southern Indiana. It partners with Carroll County Memorial Hospital to provide care.
