LEXINGTON – VisitLEX today announced a new online resource to help travelers who have disabilities connect with area attractions that can accommodate their needs.

It partnered with Wheel the World, which connects people with disabilities with destinations, hotels, attractions and restaurants that offer accessible travel. Wheel the World provides a comprehensive guide for travelers with disabilities, including information about what is accessible and specialized customer support throughout the entire travel process.

VisitLEX partnered with Wheel the World to assess 23 locations in the city – from hotels and restaurants to museums and other attractions. Wheel the World sent an ambassador to conduct assessments, including measuring bed heights and door frames, asking questions and taking photos. It then makes this comprehensive accessible information available to travelers.

“We want to share Lexington with everyone and ensure that all are welcome and have access to our amazing attractions,” VisitLEX President Mary Quinn Ramer said. “Providing this information to travelers who have specific needs will help them plan a trip that allows them to experience Lexington to the fullest.”

This effort is part of VisitLEX’s new Lex for Good initiative, which promotes accessibility and sustainability in the tourism industry in Lexington. VisitLEX also plans to have additional attractions assessed in the future.

To date, the 23 partners are: American Saddlebred Museum, Ashland the Henry Clay Estate, Aviation Museum, Central Bank Center, International Museum of the Horse, Jacobson Park, James E Pepper Distillery, Keeneland, Kentucky Horse Park, Lexington Brewing and Distilling, Lexington History Museum, Lexington Visitors Center, McConnell Springs, Rupp Arena, 21c Museum Hotel, Lockbox, the Campbell House, the Rackhouse Tavern, Hilton Lexington Downtown, Hyatt Regency, Origin Hotel, 33 Staves and SpringHill Suites (UK Campus).
