Citizens invited to attend the Downtown Rotary annual tradition
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Jan. 7, 2013) — Saying he wants to move the annual State of the City address to different areas of Louisville, Mayor Greg Fischer announced that he will deliver this year’s speech at the Kentucky Center for African-American Heritage in the Russell neighborhood.
The speech, slated for January 24, is a longtime tradition and is delivered each January before the Downtown Rotary Club, which usually meets at the Galt House. The mayor asked — and the Rotary agreed — to change the annual event by moving it to different locations each year and opening it up to the public.
“The annual speech is about the state of the entire city, so it’s only natural that it’s delivered in different areas of our great city,” Fischer said.
Downtown Rotary President Stuart Alexander said his members are excited about the changes.
“This will bring a fresh perspective — and our Rotary members are looking forward to the changes,” he said. “Change can be invigorating.”
Fischer also announced that the event will be open to the public. Anyone who wishes to attend the event and eat lunch should RSVP by close of business Friday, Jan. 18 by calling 1-502-589-1800 or emailing [email protected]
Lunch, catered by Mark’s Feed Store, is $20.
There will also be seats for citizens who wish to attend the event but not eat.
