Six die on Kentucky roadways last week

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Jan. 7, 2013) — Preliminary statistics indicate that six people died in five separate crashes on Kentucky roadways from Wednesday, Jan. 2 through Sunday, Jan. 6.

One double-fatality motor vehicle crash occurred in Fleming County. One of the victims was not wearing a seat belt.

Two single-fatality motor vehicle crashes occurred in Jefferson County. The suspected use of alcohol was involved in both.

One single-fatality motor vehicle crash occurred in each of the following counties: Lincoln and Ohio. The victim in Lincoln County was not wearing a seat belt and alcohol was involved.

Through Jan. 6, preliminary statistics indicate that six people have lost their lives on Kentucky roadways during 2013. This is two fewer than reported for this time period in 2012. Of the six motor vehicle fatalities, two victims were not wearing seat belts. A total of three fatalities have resulted from crashes involving the suspected use of alcohol.

Citizens can contribute to highway safety by reporting erratic drivers to the Kentucky State Police toll-free at 1-800-222-5555. Callers will remain anonymous and should give a description of the vehicle, location, direction of travel and license number if possible.
