“As the largest law enforcement agency in the country, CBP officers work in all types of environments using their unique sets of operational skills to ensure that harmful illegal drugs that are transiting this country, don’t get to their final destination,” said William A. Ferrara, acting director of CBP Chicago Field Operations. “This was an excellent interception by our CBP officers at the Louisville UPS location who consistently seize shipments of dangerous drugs and other contraband coming into our nation.”

CBP officers in Louisville discovered the shipment of heroin during a routine inspection of international air freight arriving from India. Upon examination, the illegal narcotic was discovered concealed within the bottom wooden framing of a large red duffle bag. The shipment of approximately 11 ounces was destined for Toronto, Canada. No arrests have been made at this time; however, the information has been shared with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.

CBP officers and agriculture specialists are stationed at the express consignment and cargo facilities located throughout the country. CBP examines arriving international freight for all types of contraband or prohibited items being shipped to the United States.
