2013 Governor’s Ambassador Awards announced

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Oct. 9, 2013) — Kentucky First Lady Jane Beshear and Personnel Cabinet Secretary Timothy Longmeyer commemorated Public Service Recognition Week on Oct. 9 with the presentation of the fifth annual Governor’s Ambassador Awards.

The 2013 awards generated more than 100 employee nominations, and six outstanding employees were recognized for the difference they are making in the lives of others.

Created in October 2008, the awards program was established to highlight stories of employees who have made a positive impact on their co-workers, customers or community. Nominations for the awards are accepted throughout the year in six categories: customer service, courage, leadership, professional achievement, teamwork, or community service and volunteerism.

A selection committee reviews the submissions, and three finalists are chosen in each category. Mrs. Beshear and Sec. Longmeyer serve as co-chairs of the selection committee. Gov. Beshear selects the six overall winners in each category. All names are removed from the submissions to ensure fairness and anonymity.

Award recipients are honored by having a personalized engraved brick placed along Ambassador Avenue outside the Thomas D. Clark Center for Kentucky History.

The 2013 award recipients include:

Community Service and Volunteerism: Marcie Lowe, Education Professional Standards Board, Education and Workforce Development Cabinet

Courage: Sterling Barker, Department of Aviation, Transportation Cabinet

Customer Service: Dusty Whitaker, Department for Community Based Services, Cabinet for Health and Family Services

Leadership: Stephanie Hold, Office of Inspector General, Cabinet for Health and Family Services
