565 acres in Kentucky donated to PACE in 2013

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Feb. 26, 2014) — The PACE (Purchase of Agricultural Conservation Easements) Corp. received donations of six properties in Kentucky last year totaling nearly 565 acres.

Five of the donated properties came from Logan County and one from Lincoln County covering 564.691 acres.

“I want to personally thank these Kentucky landowners for ensuring that their land remains in agricultural production,” Agriculture Commissioner James Comer said. “Farming is necessary to feed a growing population, but it also contributes nearly $6 billion a year in cash receipts to Kentucky’s famers.”

PACE currently has 171 conservation easements in 31 Kentucky counties totaling 33,818.38 acres.

The Kentucky General Assembly established the PACE in 1994 to purchase agricultural conservation easements in order to ensure that lands currently in agricultural use will not be converted to other uses. Although PACE was established to purchase easements, landowners also are encouraged to donate easements to ensure they remain agricultural in nature.
