Great American Backyard Campout at Jefferson Memorial Forest

Event is June 28-29

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (June 19, 2014) — The annual Great American Backyard Campout will be held June 28-29 at Jefferson Memorial Forest.

Since 2005, thousands of people from across the nation have come together the fourth Saturday of June to participate in the Great American Backyard Campout in support of Great Outdoors Month. The overnight family campout at Jefferson Memorial Forest supports the national effort to raise awareness of the benefits of camping as a way to connect people with nature, and reinforces National Wildlife Federation’s “Be Out There” campaign.

This Great American Backyard Campout is an easy way for friends, families and children to sleep under the stars and create memories of outdoor experiences. Families will enjoy night hikes, s’mores, and stories around the campfire by storyteller Graham Shelby.

Campers are also invited to bring their own dinners to cook over an open fire. Campers will need to provide their own dinner, breakfast, and tent. (For families in need of a tent, there are a limited number that the Forest will have available for rent.) Alcoholic beverages are not allowed.

The cost is $25 per family up to four people, with an additional $5 per family member. Tent rental is $15. For reservations, call the Welcome Center at (502) 368-5404.
