NKU hosting entrepreneurially minded high school students

Event to feature 16 high schools

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (June 19, 2014) — The Center for Entrepreneurship at Northern Kentucky University will host entrepreneurially minded high school students from 16 schools across northern Kentucky/Greater Cincinnati this weekend. This inaugural program, titled NKU Jump Start, will give students hands-on experience in ideation, team building, opportunity validation, and pitching.

FLBB_NKU-LogoThe weekend starts with students participating in ideation workshops to develop ideas for potential products and services. Students will have to pitch their idea to their peers and convince other students to be part of their team. They then form teams around those ideas and spend the weekend – under the guidance of mentors (NKU undergraduates, alumni, as well as local business and community leaders) – identifying their target markets and validating the feasibility of the ideas.

Throughout the weekend, students will have several opportunities to network with various individuals and experience real-world business tactics. The final day will include proposal presentations before a diverse panel of judges. Additionally, students will stay on campus for the duration of the program and experience life as a college student.

Students for the program were selected through an application process based on their accomplishments, extracurricular activities, and essays.
