Scott Schwartz named police chief of CVG

Retiring Kevin Murphy had held position since 2005

COVINGTON, Ky. (July 31, 2014) ­— Scott Schwartz will take over as police chief of Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG), taking over for Kevin Murphy, who is retiring effective July 31. Murphy has been with CVG since 1992 and police chief since 2005.

Murphy also serves as the president of ALEAN, an international association of airport law enforcement agencies, and the president of the Northern Kentucky Police Chief Association

Schwartz, who has been serving in the role of assistant police chief, started with CVG in 1991 as a police officer in the patrol area. In 1996, he moved to the Investigations unit as a detective. Scott was promoted to Sergeant in 1998 where he held various sergeant roles such as Patrol, Administrative, and Investigations. Scott was also the team leader for the Special Response Team (a.k.a. SWAT) from 1999 to 2010. Scott was promoted to Lieutenant in 2005 where he remained in that role until his promotion to Assistant Police Chief in 2011. In addition, Scott is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.

Lt. Shawn Ward will assume the role of assistant police chief. He started with the CVG Police Department in 1992 as a telecommunicator and became an officer in 1993. He served as a corporal and was promoted to sergeant in 1999. In 2005, he was promoted to lieutenant and has commanded the Patrol Section, Investigation Section and he is currently managing the Communication Section. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy.
