Kentucky Downs to host $250,000 Dueling Grounds Derby

Event is Saturday in Franklin

FRANKLIN, Ky. (Sept. 4, 2014) — Live racing returns to Kentucky Downs on Saturday with a 10-race card is highlighted by the inaugural running of the $250,000 Dueling Grounds Derby.

A field of 10 three-year-olds — including Medal Count and Global View — will line up in the stakes race carded at 1 5/16 miles over the European-style Kentucky Downs turf course.

Medal Count, owned by Spendthrift Farm and trained by Dale Romans has a lifetime earnings of $421,600 and finished in the Belmont. Global View, a Tom Proctor-trained sophomore owned by Glen Hill Farm, Global View was fourth place in the Secretariat Stakes and has three lifetime wins and two runner-up finishes.

Also on Saturday, two-year-old fillies will compete in the $200,000 Kentucky Downs Juvenile Fillies at seven furlongs on the turf, and the two-year-old colts take their turn in the spotlight in the $200,000 Kentucky Downs Juvenile, also contested at seven furlongs on the grass.

Kentucky Downs races will also be held on Sept. 10, 13, 17 and 24.
