Current Purple Heart plate holders will receive new one at registration
FRANKFORT, Ky. (Oct. 2, 2014) — The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is releasing the new design of the Purple Heart veterans’ license plate Dec. 1. The new plate adds the phrase “Combat Wounded” to clarify the qualifications for a Purple Heart medal.
In 2013, the Kentucky General Assembly passed House Bill 272 authorizing the changed plate design with the phrase “Combat Wounded” and an image of the Purple Heart Medal. The bill directed KYTC to make the change during the next scheduled replating.
Current Purple Heart plate holders will receive the new plate when they renew the registration on their vehicles over the coming year.
