Nearly 1,500 free flu shots administered on Thursday in Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 10, 2014) — Lexington-Fayette County Health Department employees gave 1,498 flu shots over a three-hour period on Thursday during the annual free flu shot clinic at Imani Family Life Center.

Vaccination protection influenzaLast year, the health department provided 1,921 shots at the clinic over an eight-hour period.

The seasonal flu shot is recommended to all people ages 6 months and older. Last year, Lexington had 109 confirmed cases of the flu. The health department provided more than 3,100 flu vaccinations throughout the season.

For community members not able to get their flu shots on Thursday, the health department offers flu shots from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at its Public Health Clinic North at 805A Newtown Circle. No appointment is necessary. Cost is $30. Medicaid/Medicare, cash, checks, credit cards and some insurances are accepted.
