Directory connects Centre students with alumni in search for internships, jobs

Students can search by major, industry or location

DANVILLE, Ky. (Nov. 3, 2014) — The Center for Career and Professional Development at Centre College is taking steps toward strengthening its alumni connections and employer relations in order to better serve students pursuing internships and job opportunities. To help get students going in the right direction, Morgan McKenzie joined the Center for Career and Professional Development in September in the newly created position of employer relations specialist.

McKenzie will work to engage alumni, parents and employers in establishing relationships dedicated to connecting students to a plethora of career opportunities. She spearheaded the effort to launch the new Career Mentor Directory, an online directory that allows students to network with alumni in a variety of career fields.

“This directory will consist of alumni who wish to provide career information or shadowing opportunities to students,” explains Joy Asher, director of the Center for Career and Professional Development. “This provides invaluable networking contacts for our students, and is also a great way for alumni to ‘give back’ to Centre by helping Centre students.”

Alumni “mentors” can enter their own information into the directory and decide how often they would like to be contacted. Students can search the directory by major, industry or geographic location, and can reach out directly to the appropriate alumni with any career-related questions.

McKenzie hopes to enter alumni across all fields into the directory so students will have easy access to a wide variety of connections. As she is working as an auxiliary member of the Alumni Affairs Office, this goal should be easy to attain.

“Together we are working to identify alumni who may be interested in participating in this exciting new opportunity to engage with students,” McKenzie said. “We hope that this will lead to other productive collaborations in the future.”
