Lexington officials set to break ground on new skatepark

Will include a street course, a snake run and feature a flow bowl

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 22, 2014) — A new world-class skateboard park is coming to Lexington. City officials, Dreamland Skateparks and Friends for Skateparks will break ground at 8:30 a.m. on Dec. 29 on the skateboard park at Berry Hill Park on Buckhorn Drive.

The public-private project is expected to draw visitors from surrounding communities and from other states. It is being built in phases, using both public and private funding.

The first two phases of the proposed $1 million park will cost about $600,000 and include a street course, a snake run and feature a flow bowl. There is an option to add two more phases if more money is raised.

The Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council authorized approximately $575,000 for the project. The Friends of the Skatepark raised another $20,000 and continues to raise money to assist with site amenities and the addition of future phases.

The skatepark will replace the Berry Hill swimming pool, which was demolished several years ago. Lexington currently has one other skatepark at Woodland Park in Chevy Chase.
