Kentucky Opera general director David Roth dies of unknown cause

Louisville, Ky. – Kentucky Opera General Director David Roth has died of unknown causes, the arts organization announced today.

Roth was returning from a business trip in Des Moines and from visiting his family in Wisconsin. He was found in his car, which had run off the road, and pronounced dead on the scene. The cause of death has yet to be determined.

“David was a positive and powerful presence in the lives of many of us. He will be deeply missed. We ask they you extend your heartfelt condolences to his family and friends whole loved him dearly,” said Christy Kramer, past Kentucky Opera president.

Roth had been the General Director of Kentucky Opera since 2006.  He moved to Louisville from Texas where he was the Finance Director of Fort Worth Opera. Roth held a double major from University of Wisconsin in Business Administration and Vocal Performance.  Roth was a director’s assistant for Colin Graham, Francesca Zambello and John Copley, as well as a freelance stage director for numerous opera companies including Minnesota Opera, Baltimore Opera and Opera Theatre of Saint Louis. Roth held essential balance of artistic sophistication and financial acumen required to lead the Kentucky Opera.
