Adventure racing national championships coming to Pine Mountain

Non-stop 24-hour race includes trekking, mountain biking and canoeing

Pineville, Ky. – The United States Adventure Racing Association will hold its 2015 Adventure Race National Championship at Pine Mountain State Resort Park on Oct. 2-3.

The championship is among the first of 13 events that make up the Kentucky Outdoor Adventure Games held during October.

The race involves coed teams of three trekking, mountain biking and paddling canoes non-stop for 24 hours, using only a topographic map and compass to navigate.  Teams must qualify at a regional qualifying race in order to compete.

“I’m so pleased to have this race return to Kentucky so we can showcase another beautiful region of Kentucky to racers from across the U.S.,” said race director Stephanie Ross. “Pine Mountain is a real gem in the crown of Kentucky State Parks, and racers will enjoy the challenge of the rugged mountains in this area.”

Some 180 competitors are expected to take part in the race, which starts Oct. 2 at 8 a.m. The 2011 national championship was held at Cumberland Falls State Resort Park near Corbin, Kentucky.
