Humana completes acquisition of California-based MD Care

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Jan. 4, 2012) BUSINESS WIRE — Humana Inc. announced Wednesday that it has completed its previously announced acquisition of MD Care, a California-based Medicare Advantage HMO. Terms were not disclosed.

The acquisition increases Humana’s Medicare Advantage membership by approximately 15,000 members in four Southern California counties: Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside counties.

Humana and MD Care are working together to ensure a seamless transition of the Medicare business and to communicate to members about their new Humana coverage. Humana and MD Care emphasize that there will be no interruption in coverage; members can continue to see the same health care providers and receive the same benefits they currently have.

Members who enrolled with MD Care during the 2011 Annual Election Period (for 2012 coverage) will receive the same benefits offered in the plan they selected.

Humana’s acquisition of MD Care is not expected to materially impact its financial earnings guidance for the year ending Dec. 31, 2012.
