Pikeville, Ky. – Pikeville Medical Center has hired Aaron Crum, MD, as the facility’s chief medical officer.

Dr. Crum, a native of Pike County, has been practicing obstetrics/gynecology (OB/GYN) in Pikeville since 2000 and has been employed at Pikeville Medical Center since 2012.

He has served in several leadership roles at PMC including chief of staff, OB/GYN committee chairman, credentials committee chairman and executive committee member. In addition, he has served as a board member for the Health Underwriters Group Insurance Company.

A graduate of the University of Kentucky and the University of Kentucky College of Medicine, Dr. Crum completed his OB/GYN residency at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center. He is a diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and fellow of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He holds memberships in the American Medical Association and Kentucky Medical Association.

In his role as CMO, Dr. Crum will enhance quality at PMC as medical guidelines change and drive communication between administration, physicians and nurses.

Dr. Crum will also work to align PMC’s medical standards with those of Mayo Clinic. The hospital has been a member of the Mayo Clinic Care Network since 2013, a collaboration that brings Mayo Clinic’s expertise to PMC physicians.

“We want to achieve the same level of care provided by Mayo Clinic in a rural setting,” Crum said.

He will still be seeing patients full-time on the 7th floor of the PMC Clinic.

“There will be no change in my current OB/GYN schedule,” he said.

In a rapidly changing healthcare climate, Crum and hospital administration look forward to what can be accomplished through the CMO position.

“I’m excited to take on this new role,” Crum said. “It will be a benefit for me to continue elevating quality at the hospital and hopefully it will benefit the community.”

President/CEO Walter E. May said, “Dr. Crum has been a great asset to Pikeville Medical Center for many years and we look forward to his continued success in his new role.”

Dr. Crum resides in Pikeville with his wife Angelia and their two children, Ryan, 16, and Emily, 14.

Pikeville Medical Center is a 261-bed hospital and Level II Trauma Center offering more than 400 services, including every major specialty and many subspecialties. An 11-story Clinic and 10-story parking garage were recently opened on the hospital’s main campus.
