Pledge ceremony for Kentucky AmeriCorps scheduled for Friday

More than 350 to take pledge at Capitol

FRANKFORT, Ky. (Sept. 10, 2015) — More than 350 new and returning Kentucky AmeriCorps members will march to the state Capitol on Friday to pledge their commitment to a new AmeriCorps service year. About 75,000 AmeriCorps members are expected to serve nationally this year.

Members will assemble for the service march at 9:30 a.m. on 3rd Street between Shelby Street and Capital Avenue in Frankfort. The event begins at 10 a.m.

Kentucky leaders scheduled to speak are: Cabinet for Health and Family Services Secretary Audrey Tayse Haynes; Kentucky Commission on Community Volunteerism and Service executive director Joe Bringardner; Sen. Brandon Smith (R- Hazard); Rep. Derrick Graham (D-Frankfort); and Colmon Elridge III, director of the National Center for Interstate Compacts, Council of State Governments.

AmeriCorps is a national service program administered in state by the Kentucky Commission on Community Volunteerism and Service, part of the Cabinet for Health and Family Services and the federal Corporation for National and Community Service. AmeriCorps members provide intensive, results-driven service to meet education, environmental, health, economic and other pressing needs in communities across Kentucky.
