Keeneland catalogs 1,796 horses for 2016 January sale

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 3, 2015) — Keeneland has cataloged 1,796 horses for its 58th January Horses of All Ages Sale, to be held from Jan. 11-15, 2016. The catalog includes 624 broodmares, 181 broodmare prospects, 729 yearlings, 251 horses of racing age and 11 stallions and stallion prospects.

The interactive catalog will be available online at Keeneland.com beginning Tuesday. Print catalogs will be mailed the week of Dec. 21.

“The January Sale is noted for high-quality broodmare prospects and short yearlings, and it gives breeders some final opportunities to obtain stock as breeding season nears,” said Keeneland director of sales Geoffrey Russell. “We look for the upcoming sale to be a solid auction that continues the strengths of the market seen during the November Breeding Stock Sale.”

The 624 broodmares in the catalog are in foal to 168 stallions, including Bernardini, Bodemeister, City Zip, Curlin, Declaration of War, Empire Maker, Ghostzapper, Giant’s Causeway, Hard Spun, Into Mischief, Kitten’s Joy, Lemon Drop Kid, Lope de Vega, Malibu Moon, Medaglia d’Oro, More Than Ready, Orb, Pioneerof the Nile, Scat Daddy, Shackleford, Shanghai Bobby, Speightstown, Street Sense, Tapit, Tiznow, Uncle Mo, Union Rags and War Front

The 729 yearlings cataloged represent 191 stallions, among them Bernardini, Bodemeister, City Zip, Curlin, Distorted Humor, Giant’s Causeway, Into Mischief, Kitten’s Joy, Lemon Drop Kid, Malibu Moon, More Than Ready, Orb, Pioneerof the Nile, Scat Daddy, Shanghai Bobby, Speightstown, Street Cry (IRE), Street Sense, Super Saver, Tiznow, Uncle Mo, Union Rags and War Front.

The auction also features two dispersals: the dispersal of the estate of Eric A. Delvalle, consigned by Brandywine Farms, agent, and the dispersal of the estate of Sarah J. Leigh, Denali Stud, agent.

The 2015 stakes winners that are graduates of the January Sale include Grade 1 winners Ball Dancing and Twilight Eclipse; Grade 2 winners Alert Bay, Bailoutbobby, Birdatthewire, Call Me George, Conquest Daddyo, Fioretti and Tower of Texas; and Grade 3 winner Far Right.
