Entities headquartered in Kentucky, ranked by revenue

Two companies made significant moves on the 2012 Kentucky Blue Chip 25, The Lane Report’s annual compilation of the largest publicly held companies based in the commonwealth. Healthcare real estate invest-ment trust company Ventas of Louisville made the biggest jump, moving up four spots to No. 8. Its total revenue jumped from just over $1 billion to $1.763 billion, and its market capitalization nearly doubled, from $9 billion to $17.14 billion.

Investors Heritage Capital Corp. of Frank-fort also made a significant climb, to No. 20 from No. 25. The company’s revenue nearly tripled in 2011.

The inclusion of institutional pharmacy operator PharMerica (a Kindred spinoff a few years ago) and coal producer Rhino Resources to The Lane List pushed Winchester-based Delta Natural Gas off this year’s Top 25. Fortune 500 member Omnicare also came off the list. The pharmaceutical care company moved in 2011 across the river to Cincinnati.
