LG&E and KU senior VP of HR retires after 28 years

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Feb. 2, 2016) — Paula Pottinger has retired as senior vice president of human resources at LG&E and KU after more than 28 years of service. Greg Meiman, director of corporate tax and benefit plan compliance, has assumed the role of vice president of human resources.

Pottinger joined the company in 1987. She has held a number of management positions, overseeing organizational and executive development, compensation and human resource information systems, employee relations and human resources development before being promoted to division human resource director in 1997. She was promoted to vice president of human resources in 2002 and senior vice president in 2006.

“Paula has been an outstanding advocate for our employees. She understands the personal side of our business, yet has an innate ability to deliver bottom-line results,” said LG&E and KU chairman, CEO and pesident Vic Staffieri. “We are going to miss her passion for this company, her caring attitude and her leadership. We wish Paula and her husband, Scott, all the best.”

Meiman joined LG&E and KU in 1996 as a senior corporate attorney. He was promoted numerous times before leaving the company in early 2001 for private law practice. He rejoined the company as senior counsel and executive plan specialist in late 2002. His role included providing counsel on complex legal issues related to employee benefits and taxation, along with management responsibilities in the legal department. Throughout his tenure, Meiman has worked on numerous significant tax matters and corporate transactions including the KU Energy Corporation merger, as well as the Powergen, E.ON and PPL acquisitions.

He was named to his current role in 2013 and is responsible for directing the tax and payroll departments, assuring company compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations. Meiman also works closely with human resources on numerous efforts, including the company’s employee benefit plans and compensation programs.

Before joining the company, Meiman served as tax and benefit counsel for Providian Corporation, and began his career as an accountant with a regional accounting firm.

He is certified as an employee benefits specialist through the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans and the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania; a member of the Kentucky Bar Association, the Louisville Bar Association, and the Kentucky Society of Certified Public Accountants. He is also active in the community and serves on the Louisville Ballet board.

Meiman has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Louisville and a juris doctor degree from the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law.
