Consists of four events
FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 2, 2016) — Organizers of the Kentucky Century Challenge are pleased to announce that the challenge will return for a fourth year. The Kentucky Century Challenge is a compilation of four cycling events in Kentucky – the Redbud Ride, in London; the Horsey Hundred, in Georgetown; Bike Morehead, in Morehead; and the Hub City Tour, in Elizabethtown.
New for 2016 is the Bike Morehead ride which, along with London, is headquartered in a certified Kentucky Trail Town.
Each event offers a “Century Ride” option of 100 miles, in addition to other routes that are of a shorter distance. In order to complete the Kentucky Century Challenge, riders must complete any three of the four Century Rides. Riders who are successful will qualify for a special-edition Kentucky Century Challenge jersey that is only available to participants who sign up for and complete the Challenge.
The 2016 ride dates and locations are:
- Redbud Ride, April 23, London
- Horsey Hundred, May 27-29, Georgetown
- Bike Morehead, June 18, Morehead
- Hub City Tour, Sept. 10, Elizabethtown
While there is no limit on the number of participants in the Century Challenge, only the first 800 to sign up will be eligible for a free or reduced-cost jersey. Riders completing all four century rides, and are among the first 800 registrants, will receive their special-edition jersey free. Those completing three of the four rides, again among the first 800 registrants, will receive their jerseys for a discounted cost of $25. Those signing up after the first 800 riders will be able to purchase their jersey – if they complete the challenge – at a cost of $45.
Sponsors for the 2016 Kentucky Century Challenge include: Morehead Tourism, Graviss McDonald’s, London Downtown, Cumberland Valley Cycling Club, Small Batch Cyclery and the Zombie Cycling Team.
Registration will be available online through April 17.
