Volunteer ambassadors sought for Kentucky Derby events

For Thunder Over Louisville, Pegasus Parade and Broadway Corridor

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (April 18, 2016) — The Louisville Metro Police Department is seeking adult volunteers to be ambassadors during Kentucky Derby events. Ambassadors serve as liaisons between onlookers and the police by being visible in crowded areas so others can approach them with safety concerns. Ambassadors do not act on this information, other than to report it to nearby officers.

Louisville Metro Police Department has found great success in this program, because many people won’t involve officers in uncertain situations, but they will approach ambassadors when they see mischief.

Ambassadors work in pairs. Light dinners will be provided. For more information email Christopher Link or call (502) 574-2134.

Ambassador events:

  • Thunder Over Louisville, April 23 from 5-8:30 p.m.
  • Pegasus Parade, May 5 from 4:30-6:30 p.m.
  • Broadway Corridor, May 6-7 from 7-9 p.m.
