Louisville area home sales up 15.1% in 2016

Sales up 14% in March 2016 over March 2015

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (April 18, 2016) — The Greater Louisville Association of Realtors reported March 2016 sales up 14% over March 2015, with 1,346 homes and condos sold this year compared to 1,180 last year.

Screen Shot 2016-04-18 at 1.25.42 PMThrough the first three months of the year homes sales are up 15.1 percent this year over last year. The median price for all areas during the first three months of 2016 was up 4.3 percent and the average price was up 1.1 percent.

In Jefferson County the average price in March was $175,630 and the median price was $149,000. For all MLS areas, the inventory of available properties was 20 percent lower than at the same time last year. In Jefferson County, the decreased inventory of homes and condos for sale was 24.7 percent lower than in March 2015.

“The seller’s market is continuing in Louisville with inventory down in some areas over 20 percent compared to last year,” said GLAR president Greg Taylor. “This has also led to some fluctuations in the month to month statistics, but in general our members are seeing steady single digit appreciation gains versus last year.”
