LOUISVILLE, Ky. (May 17, 2016) – Former Louisville Metro Council President David W. Tandy has joined Bingham Greenebaum Doll LLP, the law firm announced Tuesday.

Tandy, an experienced local government leader and attorney, joined the firm as Of Counsel and is now a member of the Economic Development practice group. Tandy has served his community in local government for more than 11 years, helping guide the city’s multibillion-dollar economic growth through his work in various leadership positions on the Louisville Metro Council. He will continue his practice from the firm’s Louisville office as a member of the Diversified Business Solutions Team.

Civically, David served his community as the seventh and tenth Louisville Metro Council president after being elected unanimously twice by his colleagues to the top leadership post in 2009 and 2015. He also served as the Labor and Economic Development Committee chairman during his local government career, and successfully crafted and guided public policy through the legislative process that gave local businesses the opportunity to grow and individuals the ability to be employed and thrive as a result of the city’s participation in the construction of the KFC Yum! Center. This policy which affords minority and women owned businesses and members of the workforce the opportunity to participate in major economic development projects was later adopted by the Louisville Metro Council in the Fair Labor Standards Ordinance of 2009.

“We are very excited to work with David. His work in Louisville has laid the groundwork for Metro Louisville to continue on a trajectory of positive growth. He has been an excellent attorney, trusted advisor, and civic servant for the city,” said Mark H. Oppenheimer, managing partner of the Louisville office. “David is a tremendous addition to the BGD team. He has been a key player in a number of city projects, and brings a depth of government and community outreach knowledge that will benefit everyone who works with him.”

At Eastern Kentucky University, David served as the secretary for the Board of Regents and currently is the chairman of the Student Life, Discipline and Athletics Committee. His community involvement has also included serving on the boards of the Louisville Arena Authority, the Waterfront Development Corporation, One West and the Greater Louisville Inc. (GLI) – the Metro Chamber of Commerce. Currently, David serves on the boards of the Louisville Downtown Management District, the Louisville Downtown Development Corporation and the New Directions Housing Corporation.

David’s passion as an attorney is to see his clients succeed and grow. His legal practice focuses in the areas of business development and outside general counsel representation, public finance and government relations work. David is admitted to practice in Kentucky. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Vanderbilt University and his law degree from the University of Kentucky College of Law. David is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
