LOUISVILLE, Ky. (May 17, 2016) – The Kentucky Hospital Association presented several awards during the Association’s Awards Luncheon on May 13, at the 87th Annual KHA Convention in Lexington.

The highlight of the luncheon was the installation of the 2016-2017 Chair of the KHA Board of Trustees, Susan Starling, CEO of Marcum and Wallace Memorial Hospital in Irvine. Starling will begin her tenure as chair on July 1.

KHA’s Award of Excellence was presented to state Sen. Ralph Alvarado. The senator was recognized, KHA said, for devoting his career to serving the healthcare needs of Kentucky’s citizens with a “servant” attitude, then taking that a step further to seek public office. Alvarado was elected to the 29th Senate district covering Clark, Fayette and Montgomery counties. He made a name for himself as an advocate on health and hospital issues and KHA is grateful for his service to the citizens of Kentucky.

KHA’s Health Care Governance Leadership Award was presented to Dale Kihlman, board chair of the Ephraim McDowell Health Board of Directors in Danville. The Governance Leadership Award is presented to individuals who have had a positive and sustainable impact on the quality of care in their community.

KHA was established in 1929. Headquartered in Louisville, it represents hospitals, related health care organizations and integrated health care systems dedicated to sustaining and improving the health status of the citizens of Kentucky.
