Wayne Supply Co. to layoff 87 workers

Blames downturn in Eastern Kentucky coal industry

LEXINGTON, Ky. (July 13, 2016) — Wayne Supply Co. one of the nation’s oldest and largest Caterpillar dealerships, announced it will layoff 87 workers—7 percent of its workforce—because of the downturn of the coal industry in Eastern Kentucky.

“The company’s priorities during this time are respect for employees and their families, as well as serving our customers,” the company said in a press releases. “Prior to this announcement, the company has worked to reduce expenses and has made opportunities available for employees to move into positions in other areas of the company with relocation packages provided.”

Whayne Supply Company was founded in Louisville in 1913. It has 17 facilities in 16 cities across Kentucky and Southern Indiana. In addition to CAT equipment parts, service, sales, and rental Whayne is also the local dealer for Thomas Built Buses, Challenger, Massey Ferguson, Lexion, Sullair, Genie and other construction, industrial, mining, paving, forestry and agricultural equipment.
