Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over kicks off Friday

150 alcohol-related traffic fatalities in 2015

soberLEXINGTON, Ky. (Aug. 18, 2016) — The Kentucky Office of Highway Safety and officers across the nation will participate in the annual “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign, set this year to begin Friday and run through Sept. 5. Checkpoints will take place at various times of the day and night.

In 2015 in Kentucky, there were more than 5,500 collisions involving alcohol or drugs, resulting in more than 2,900 injuries and 150 fatalities. During the Labor Day holiday weekend—Labor Day this year is Sept. 5—there were 66 collisions involving alcohol or drugs, resulting in 37 injuries and 3 fatalities.

In Kentucky in 2014, there were more than 4,300 collisions involving alcohol, resulting in over 2,000 injuries and 113 fatalities

Overall in Kentucky in 2015 there were 761 fatalities, 89 more than 2014.
