Louisville Metro Police holding active shooter training exercise on Tuesday

At KFC Yum! Center

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (Sept. 26, 2016) — The Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD) will conduct a large-scale active shooter training exercise from 10 a.m. to noon on Tuesday at KFC Yum! Center. The training will simulate a gunman being inside the KFC Yum! Center during an event and will involve LMPD, arena staff and role-players depicting guests.

Though there has been no threat to the KFC Yum! Center, the training aims to equip all relevant parties with knowledge of proper protocol in the event that such an occurrence takes place.

“We plan every day for events that we pray don’t happen and we are grateful to the KFC Yum! Center staff for allowing LMPD the opportunity to train for this theoretical circumstance,” LMPD Sergeant Phil Russell said. “Our mission is to serve and protect the community and this exercise could mean the difference between life and death in a real situation.”
