20.3% of Berea students are African American
BEREA, Ky. (Oct. 4, 2016) — Berea College is the 18th best college in the U.S. for African Americans, according to Essence Magazine using data from Money Magazine.
Colleges were ranked based on:
- Representation: African-Americans had to make up at least 5 percent of each college’s student body.
- Affordability: Essence measured the price students pay after aid is subtracted and factored in the average loan debt they take on.
- Postgrad earnings: combined Money’s data on graduation rates with a Georgetown University analysis of colleges that produce unusually high-earning graduates, after accounting for the racial, academic and socioeconomic background of their student bodies.
During the 2015-2016, academic year African-American students made up 20.3 percent of Berea’s student body, an increase from 19.8 percent in the previous academic year.
