Fayette County Public Schools seeking suggestions for naming new high school

Nomination deadline Oct. 28

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 12, 2016) — Fayette County Public Schools is seeking community input on selecting a name for the new high school currently under construction on Winchester Road. The school is expected to open in August 2017. The deadline for submissions is Oct. 28.

Nominations can be submitted in three ways:

Volunteers also are being sought to serve on the naming committee. To volunteer for the naming committee, please submit the following: first name, last name, mailing address, email address, phone number, connection to the school district or new school, and reason for wanting to serve on the committee.

To suggest a name for the new school, please submit the following: suggested name for new high school, rationale, first name, last name, mailing address, email address, and phone number

The district’s naming policy says new schools, facilities, and properties may be named for a geographical area of Lexington/Fayette County or prominent deceased person who contributed to the history and/or progress of the Lexington/Fayette County area or nation.

The naming committee will make a recommendation to the superintendent. The superintendent will then make a recommendation to the Fayette County Board of Education.
