FRANKFORT, Ky. (Oct. 14, 2016) — Gov. Matt Bevin today announced the appointment of Colonel M. Blaine Hedges, of Louisville, as Commissioner of the State Council for Kentucky’s Military Interstate Children’s Compact Commission (MIC3), effective Dec. 1.

Hedges will serve for a term concurrent with the governor.

“Col. Hedges is a man of distinguished character and has, throughout his career, demonstrated exceptional leadership and management skills,” said Bevin. “As a fellow veteran, I am grateful for the selfless sacrifice he has displayed through his service to our nation. Col. Hedges’ strong personal character will be a great asset to our administration and to the citizens of our commonwealth.”

Hedges has led organizations with up to 39,000 personnel, and with budgets and real property in excess of $160 million. Most recently, Hedges served as Brigade Commander (regional vice president/director) of the 7th Brigade, United States Army Cadet Command in Fort Knox.

The commission eases education transition issues faced by the children of active duty service members transferring between school districts and states. MIC3 leverages consistency by promoting uniform treatment of military children when dealing with issues of enrollment, eligibility, placement and graduation when transferring schools.
