Medical emergency must occur within 14 days of election
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Oct. 26, 2016) — Registered voters who are unable to go to the polls on Election Day, Nov. 8, due to a medical emergency may now cast absentee ballots in the general election, Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes announced today.
To be eligible, the medical emergency affecting the voter must have occurred with 14 days or less of Election Day. The voter’s spouse is also eligible to vote absentee under this provision, KRS 117.077. The application to vote absentee may be requested by the voter, their spouse, parents, or children, and it must be notarized. If the voter has no spouse, parents or children, a designee may request the absentee application.
