Nov. 30 in Lexington
FRANKFORT, Ky. (Nov. 14, 2016) — The Kentucky Arts Council’s third annual Creative Industry Summit is scheduled for Nov. 30 at the Lexington Convention Center.
“We’ve created a lot of momentum for examining the state of the creative industry since the release of the Creative Industry Report in 2014, and the annual Creative Industry Summit is an important part of keeping the conversation going,” said Lori Meadows, arts council executive director. “We think attendees at this year’s summit will take plenty of knowledge back to their respective communities and start their own conversations.”
Among the summit’s morning plenary session topics are an update on the arts council’s latest creative industry initiatives, learning opportunities on how artists can successfully collaborate with business people and community leaders, and an introduction to and status report on Kentucky’s fast-growing video game development industry.
Afternoon sessions will offer direct training opportunities to individuals working in the creative industry through two afternoon learning tracks – one for visual artists and another for performing artists. A third learning track will be offered for those interested in community arts topics.
The afternoon will feature workshops and presentations on:
- Brand development.
- Increasing and targeting social media efforts.
- Marketing and selling artwork online.
- Legal protection for artists and artwork.
- Getting tax questions answered for your small business.
- Planning culturally relevant community events.
- Starting and executing successful public art projects.
- Discovering a network of trained cultural documentation specialists who can help you with your project.
