Encourages shoppers to support local businesses
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Nov. 22, 2016) — Small Business Saturday, scheduled every year for the Saturday after Thanksgiving, will take place on Nov. 26. The event, held one day after Black Friday, stresses the importance of buying local during the holiday shopping season.
Small businesses can register for the event on the Small Business Saturday website. Consumers also can use the website to search for small businesses in their area.
The event was launched by American Express in 2010. Last year an estimated 95 million people shopped at small independent businesses and in 2014 an estimated $14.3 billion was spent at small businesses during the event, according to American Express.
